Triathlon Sprint

I have decided I want to participate in a triathlon sprint with several of my friends. There are several of these races all year long, but I think we are participating in the Herriman race. A triathlon sprint is a short triathlon. The race includes swimming 1/4 mile, bike 10 miles, and run 3 miles. About a year ago, I realized I love to bike. There is no problem doing this part of the race. I am learning how to swim well. I feel like someone has opened a whole new dimension of the world to me by putting me in water and telling me how to propel myself through it. The running will be a challenge. I have never really enjoyed running, which is ironic considering my dad loves to run and has run every morning for as long as I can remember. Ashley, my younger sister, has run 2 full marathons and several other races. Running is not my cup of tea, but I only need to run 3 miles. That's not bad. The race is taking place August 14, 2010 at 7 am. I am glad we chose to do one in August to give me time to train. Yesterday I ran when I got home from work, went to a Relief Society meeting, and then went swimming after that. My legs and arms are little tender today. I love that feeling. After I swam, I went home, showered, and Josh came over. By that time, I was starving. I don't eat much right before swimming for several reasons. So, we were eating dinner at 11 pm. We sat at the table and talked for another hour. One thing is for sure, I don't get much sleep anymore. Between training and Josh, I haven't done any quilting either! It's funny though, all I think about when I get up in the morning is when I can get back in the water. I love it...the idea of racing, the training, swimming, learning something new, having something to be passionate about...I love it all. So, who wants to come watch a race August 14th in Utah?

Aimee! I'm so impressed! I have a hard time finding the discipline to torture myself with physical exercise. I took up jogging a year and half ago and run between 12 and 15 miles each week. I have learned to like it -- well, I've learned to like the results of it, anyway. I bike a few miles 3 days a week with a girlfriend when the weather is good too. It is definitely more enjoyable than jogging. I've been challenged by a friend to do a 10 K run in my town in May and I'm dragging my feet about committing to it. Why torture myself with the rigors of training and the looming race day? Keep us apprised of your training progress and maybe you'll inspire and motivate me!! Good luck!
